  • 250g plain wheat flour

  • 1 tsp pumpkin spice

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1/2 tbsp olive oil

___

Method

  • Add the pumpkin purée and water to a saucepan and bring to boil. Turn off the heat

  • In a big bowl add the flour, pumpkin spice, baking powder, salt and mix. Then add the pumpkin purée you just boiled and quickly mix with a wooden spoon (a whisk also works). Once you get a sticky dough add the olive oil and mix for 2 more minutes. Leave it to rest for 5-10min covered with a kitchen cloth

  • Meanwhile add olive oil to a frying pan so it’s about 3 high and bring to medium-high heat

  • Transfer dough to a pastry bag with a large star-shaped tip. Pipe a short strip of batter directly into the hot oil and cut it with scissors

  • Fry churros on both sides until they become golden brown and then transfer to kitchen paper to remove excess heat

  • Coat churros evenly with the sugar pumpkin spice mixture

  • For making the hot chocolate add the milk and cinnamon stick to a saucepan and bring to boil for 5 min to infuse the milk. Remove the cinnamon stick and add the chocolate and stir until it melts and fully incorporates into the milk

FAQS and Tips

  • You can make your own pumpkin spice mix by mixing in a bowl 3 tbsp of ground cinnamon, 2 tsp ground ginger, 2 tsp nutmeg, 2 tsp all spice and 1 tsp ground cloves. This can be stored in a container so you can make all the pumpkin spice desserts!
