Halloumi french toast

The best savoury french toast you’ll ever try !

This savoury french toast is a 10 minute recipe that makes for a delicious breakfast or dinner side. You simply dip the toast in a egg and milk mix and then top it with grated halloumi. Pair it with some avocado, eggs and you will have a well balance, nutritious and high protein breakfast.

Since halloumi is a naturally savoury cheese I am pairing the french toast with some homemade hot honey for that sweet and savoury combo. There is something truly addictive about halloumi that has been doused in sweet honey and is then cooked to golden, caramelised and sticky perfection. But you can also pair it with another syrup of your choice such as maple or agave!

So what is halloumi?

It is a firm and salty cheese traditionally made with sheep and goats milk originating from Cyprus. Due to its firm texture it makes it perfect for pan frying as it doesn’t melt and instead gets a delicious golden and crispy exterior. Best part is that you can directly dry fry it without the need for adding any oil, although you are also welcome to add a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil to the pan to add some healthy fats.
